Someone spoke to me
Don’t give up
I turn away. Tears stream down my face.
I look out the window and see sky,
bright blue.
A little girl runs by. She wears a blue and white polka dot dress.
She blows bubbles out of a wand
and laughs.
“Life can be so beautiful can’t it?”
I look to my right. I see a man,
He sits against a tree, his chin against his chest. Unshaven.
Next to him an empty bottle in a brown paper bag lies on its side.
–Or it can be so ugly.
Life is difficult.
The car pulls in the driveway.
I see my mother fixing her soft pink lipstick in the rearview.
She looks at me. I look at her.
Safe.
