Dear Friends,

In response to growing concerns about Coronavirus (COVID-19), Project Place is taking a number of precautions to keep our community safe while still fulfilling our commitment to the homeless clients we serve by providing ongoing services and support.

Given the warning by Dr. Fauci of the likelihood of a second wave of the virus in the fall, and after consulting with our Co-Chairs, we have decided to cancel our Open Door Gala at the Cyclorama this year, rather than postpone it to the fall. We are confident that this is the safest option for all.

Despite the lack of an actual event, many of our sponsors are still fulfilling their pledges to support Project Place during this difficult time. We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our supporters and for your continued commitment to our mission of providing a community of hope and opportunity for homeless and low-income individuals.

We look forward to recognizing all those who gave towards our gala, and in response to the pandemic, online over the next month. Our Development Team is now working on a social media campaign focused on gratitude. We will promote the video created for the Open Door Gala as the focal point of this campaign and we will thank our supporters on multiple platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, our website, and in our April newsletter. The video captures the spirit of Project Place – compassion, community, hope and gratitude. We hope you will join us in honoring this spirit as we get through this pandemic together.

Project Place’s annual Open Door Gala supports the hundreds of individuals who come through our doors each year searching for the opportunity to build a better life.

Since our first Gala in 2017, this annual event has raised over $3 million dollars to provide critical case-management, education, and work training services to Boston’s underserved homeless population. With your support we can look forward to a new year of expanded opportunities for those in need. In 2020, we are launching new strategic initiatives: to grow our Career Services department; to replicate and expand our Re-Entry Services through Essex, Middlesex and Suffolk counties; and to provide Stabilization Services to increase access to our programs for those in need of more intensive assistance.

As a sponsor of the Open Door Gala, you will be creating jobs, housing and hope for our community!

Thank you,

from the Open Door Gala 2020 Event Committee
